What is ISO 14068-1?

ISO 14068-1 is an international standard that provides a framework for organizations to achieve and verify their crbon neutrality. It focuses on systematically managing and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and integrating carbon neutral strategies across the entire value chain.  It builds upon existing International Standards addressing greenhouse gas (GHG) quantification, reporting, validation, and verification, such as ISO 14064-1, ISO 14064-3, and ISO 14067 .

The pathway that the organization must follow include:

1. Define the Subject:
Determine whether carbon neutrality applies to the organization, product, or service.
2. Quantify the Carbon Footprint:

  • Measure direct GHG emissions (e.g., fossil fuel use, methane leaks).
  • Include indirect emissions (e.g., grid electricity, purchased goods, transportation).
  • Use ISO 14064-1/ ISO 14067 or other recognized protocols for quantification.

3. Establish the Baseline:
Set a baseline for carbon emissions, providing a reference for future reductions.
4. Create a Carbon Neutrality Management Plan:

  • Set short- and long-term GHG reduction goals.
  • Identify actions to reduce emissions or enhance GHG removals.
  • Select carbon credits and set monitoring indicators.

5. Achieve GHG Reductions:
Reduce emissions compared to the baseline before claiming carbon neutrality.
6. Offset Remaining Emissions:
Purchase carbon credits that meet quality standards (real, measurable, permanent reductions).
7. Claim Carbon Neutrality:
Once reductions and offsets are completed, the organization can claim carbon neutrality for the reporting period.
8. Ongoing Process:
Continuously update the plan, re-calculate emissions, and offset for the next reporting period.

What do we offer?
